]]>So to create that environment, it takes an interior design partner who listens and interprets your vision. And you’ll get an interior that reflects the rhythm of your life with R . Designs, LLC. In this blog, we will discuss ten eco-friendly home interior design hacks for modern lifestyles.
Incorporating vintage home decor into your home makes for a timeless and elegant look. Vintage items not only look great, but they are also an eco-friendly choice since you are reusing already available items. You can mix them with contemporary pieces to create a unique blend of styles.
You can opt for furniture and decor made from natural materials like bamboo, cork, or solid wood. Paint or stains on such natural products also have low VOC (volatile organic compounds), making them safer for the environment and your health.
You can choose sustainable flooring materials for an eco-friendly home, like cork or bamboo. These options are perfect as they are highly durable, budget-friendly, and have a natural aesthetic. Additionally, cork and bamboo are renewable products and have a low carbon footprint.
Repurposing materials is another eco-friendly trend that reduces waste and resources. Upcycling items like metal, glass, or plastic bottles into functional home decor is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly. Plus, it's an opportunity to showcase your creativity by creating unique, artful pieces.
There are various ways to make your home more energy-efficient, and lighting is one of them. You can opt for LED bulbs that last longer and use less energy than traditional incandescent or halogen bulbs. They are also available in various colors and styles to match your home decor.
Eco-friendly wall materials include products like Hempcrete, which is made of hemp and lime. It is sustainable, fire-resistant, and highly energy-efficient since it absorbs carbon dioxide from the air as it dries, making your home more eco-friendly.
You can opt for natural materials like plants for your home decor. Plants add an aesthetic appeal to your home, improve air quality, reduce stress levels, and promote relaxation. You can choose from a variety of indoor plants in different shapes and sizes that suit your home decor.
Saving water is also an essential aspect of an eco-friendly lifestyle. Installing low-flow faucets and showerheads that use less water is a smart choice that saves resources and reduces water bills.
Using natural or green laundry detergents and dryer sheets is a simple yet effective way to make your laundry routine eco-friendly. These products contain fewer chemicals, making them safer for the environment and your health.
Organic and sustainable bedding is a great way to make your home more eco-friendly. You can opt for bedding made of natural materials like cotton, linen, or bamboo to ensure that no synthetic materials harm the environment.
These ten eco-friendly interior design hacks for home decor cater to modern lifestyles and contribute to reducing your carbon footprint. Going green does not mean compromising style; with these trends, you can make your home sustainable and trendy.
If you want to reduce waste while designing your home, contact R . Designs, LLC. We ensure we use optimal resources without waste and reusing the material. Together, let's make our planet a better place to live in.

Overhead lighting is the most common and practical type of kitchen lighting. Overhead lighting provides general illumination for the entire room, making it easy to see and navigate around the kitchen. You can create an ambient light with traditional ceiling-mounted fixtures such as chandeliers or pendant lamps. Recessed lighting is a popular overhead lighting option that blends beautifully with any kitchen style. You can choose the placement and number of recessed lights based on your kitchen's unique layout and size.
Under cabinet lighting is another popular type of kitchen lighting. It provides more focused light on the countertop and workspace, and it adds a beautiful and warm glow to the kitchen. Under cabinet lighting is especially useful when you're chopping vegetables, preparing food, or reading recipes. LED strip lighting is the most popular option for under cabinet lighting because it is energy-efficient and produces a bright and long-lasting light.
Accent lighting is less about functionality and more about style. It adds a decorative element to your kitchen and creates a charming and inviting atmosphere. You can use accent lighting to highlight specific features of your kitchen, such as a unique backsplash or a beautiful range hood. Pendants, chandeliers, and track lighting are great options for accent lighting.
Task lighting is designed to provide light where you need it most—on your work surface. It reduces eye strain, adds a warm and comfortable feel to the kitchen, and helps you cook and work with precision. Task lighting can be placed under the cabinets or above the sink, stove or any area where you perform a specific kitchen task. If you have an island, you can add pendant lighting above it to provide task lighting.
Natural lighting is the best source of light, and it's free. If your kitchen has large windows, take advantage of them by letting natural light pour in. Natural light makes the kitchen feel open, airy, and bright. It also helps reduce your energy bills because you won't need to use as much artificial lighting.
Ultimately, the key to good kitchen lighting is creating a balance between natural, ambient, and task lighting. You can use a combination of these types of lighting to create a warm and inviting kitchen that is practical and stylish. If you are looking for stylish lightning, then contact R . Designs, LLC.

The insulation of your home is a crucial factor in keeping its temperature stable. The right insulation can help maintain the home's temperature while reducing the need for heating or cooling. Proper insulation in walls, attics, and floors will help save energy and reduce the carbon footprint. Invest in high-quality insulation materials and hire experts to install them correctly.
The appliances you choose for your homes can make a significant difference. Energy Star rated appliances consume less electricity compared to their traditional counterparts. Choose energy-efficient refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, and other appliances to reduce the power bill while enjoying the same level of convenience.
Installing energy-efficient windows and doors provide insulation to your homes, reducing the need for heating and air conditioning units. Energy-efficient windows are designed to keep the hot air out during summers and retain the warmth inside during winters. You can choose from a wide range of energy-efficient doors and window types, such as double-glazed, triple-glazed, and low-E glass varieties.
An excellent way to make your homes energy-efficient is by using alternative energy sources. Solar panels, wind turbines, and geothermal systems are sustainable alternatives to traditional energy sources. Solar panels generate electricity from the sun and reduce the dependency on the power grid, saving money in the long run. Moreover, installing solar panels increases the value of your home, making them a wise investment.
Apart from the above-listed steps, making lifestyle changes can also make a difference. Turning off lights, unplugging electronics not in use, reducing water usage, and recycling are simple ways to conserve energy. Energy-efficient habits will help reduce the carbon footprint, lower energy bills, and create a healthier environment.
By making simple changes and investing in energy-efficient upgrades, you can make your home sustainable, comfortable, and eco-friendly. If you are looking for energy efficient upgradation in your home, then contact R . Designs, LLC. From proper insulation to choosing the right appliances, installing energy-efficient doors and windows, and using solar panels, these steps will go a long way in reducing your carbon footprint.

]]>There could be expectations, or at least perceived expectations, to create a ‘wonderful Christmas’ with presents and perhaps the most important meal of the year.
Decide when you will stop your Christmas preparations and start to relax and enjoy the holiday. Work towards and try to stick to this goal, even if it is in the late afternoon on Christmas Eve. Remember that Christmas is your holiday too.
Play some relaxing music, perhaps seasonal carols, and burn some scented candles, incense or aromatherapy oil. Take a relaxing hot bath to unwind. When we’re stressed our heart beat increases and our breathing shallows, it’s all part of the fight or flight reaction. Work on reversing this process and take time to breathe deeply.
Breathe in deeply through your nose, hold for 15 or 20 seconds and then breathe slowly out through your mouth, repeat for a few minutes to instantly help reduce stressful feelings.
If there is someone coming to dinner that you dislike, avoid sitting opposite them and instead seat them to one side and opposite somebody who they get on with better. Invite a few more reasonable people along as it will help dilute any stress caused by relatives. It’s a case of the more the merrier!
If you are planning on cooking a bird then turkey or pheasant are good choices. They both contain tryptophan which our bodies use to make serotonin, a powerful brain-calming chemical.
When your body is under stress it produces cortisol which prepares you for ‘fight or flight’ situations. Caffeine does too…AVOID IT! Offer everybody decaffeinated coffee and tea, or herbal tea alternatives, since this will help keep the stress levels down and has the added bonus that people may fall asleep after dinner!
It's a good idea to have some pre-planned excuses to escape from proceedings if they get too stressful.
Be imaginative and use things such as leaving the room to make a phone-call to a friend or perhaps checking on a neighbor. Just by having planned a couple of escape routes you’ll probably feel less stressed anyway but actually leaving the situation, even for 10 minutes, will help clear your mind and relax you.
Lack of sleep can make you feel irritable and more prone to feeling stressed.
Christmas often means late nights and early mornings, especially if children are involved, so your normal sleep routine may be reduced. In the northern hemisphere the days are short and with less natural light we produce more melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate our body clock and sleep-wake cycle. Unless we can sleep, more melatonin means we are more likely to feel tired, grumpy stressed
Eating lots of rich foods and drinking alcohol can also disturb your sleep, not to mention Santa coming down the chimney in the middle of the night!
Christmas is, for many, a time of excessive eating and drinking and exercise can be easily overlooked. Diets and gym memberships are particularly popular in January! Exercise is a great way to reduce stress as it burns off hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline and helps produce mood-enhancing endorphins. Try going for a walk after dinner as the fresh air and exercise will lift your mood and make you feel better.
Most de-stressing articles will tell you to avoid alcohol altogether but, let’s be realistic, it is Christmas! However, do avoid excessive alcohol as it dehydrates your body and makes your liver work overtime to process it, alcohol can also hinder quality sleep.
Drink as much water or juice as alcohol as this will help you to stay hydrated, feel better and therefore cope better with stressful situations. You'll also feel better on Boxing Day.
Remember it’s your Christmas too so try to relax and have fun, laugh and be merry. If you do find others around you difficult then try to rise above the situation. If things don’t go to plan try not to worry too much, instead laugh about them and make them into fun memories that you can talk about during Christmases to come. "Remember that time Mum set fire to the sprouts!".
]]>College presentaitons, business memos, the answer to "where do babies come from" --there are a lot of situations where you have to "just wing it," and you'll still be okay. But, garage sales are not one of them. Without a plan, it's easy to get exhausted before you find even one good item. So, before you strap on the sneakers, be sure to look up which hosues are having sales, and make a sensible route.
The best way to get a seller to lower the price? "I only have a ten with me." Most Garage/estate sellers will not be able to take credit or debit anyway, so carrying cash is definitely a good decision. Another benefit? Carrying only the cash you want to spend prevents you from overspening.
If you decide to go day one of the garage sale, be prepared to find the best items for the worst price. Sellers tend to start high in the beginning. Of course, you can try your hand at haggling, but with the promise of more sale days, day-one sellers might be a bit stingier.
In the event you find an item you love, but the seller refueses to offer a reasonable price, bring business cards. Hand the seller a business or notecard with your name and number. Let them know that if they can't sell the item at their price, they should give you a call and you'll buy it for your offer.

]]>Frohe Wehnachten (Merry Christmas)! Across Europe, Christmas market season is in full bloom. Arguably the most notable Christmas markets for warm wine, unique gifts, tree-decorations, intricate string-light designs, and delicious bakery treats lie in Vienna, Austria. With more than ten markets bursting throughout downtown Vienna, it’s impossible not to feel the Christmas magic.
What winter drink warms more than hot chocolate, but has a higher alcohol content than egg nog? Mulled wine, or more commonly known in the streets of Vienna as Glühwein. This warm boozy drink is a delicacy on the streets of Vienna this time of year. In a large pot on a stove, warm red wine with sugar and water. Then, add cinnamon sticks, lemons/oranges, and rum to taste! Vooolah! A drink for the whole season!
This year deck the halls with more than just boughs of holly. If anything is learned from Vienna’s Christmas markets, it’s that you can never have too many string lights. So, pile on the lights, holly, garland, and tinsel this year!
The true fun of a Viennese christmas market is not buying the souveniours, but rather taking a slice out of your day to walk around a beautiful place with the ones you love. This holiday season remember to step away from your typical hectic schedule, grab a warm cup of Glüwein and enjoy the time with your friends and family!
Perfect for lighting up a spooky night! Simply melt some orange wax down on the stove with some essential oils and spices. Then in a clear glass cup, hold a long wick in the middle, and pour the wax around the wick. After your candle cools, wrap some earthy elements (twine, spice leaves, etc.) around it BAM you’ve got a festive candle that can be used all Fall!
Let’s be honest. Carving pumpkins is a blast, but can get messy quick. For a unique way to use pumpkins as decoration, try painting them! From funny-faces, to landscapes, to classy black and white pumpkins the options for painted pumpkins are endless. Just pick up some Acrylic paint, and let your creativity out!
If you are dying to get your hands a little dirty this Halloween, instead of a making a Jack-O-Lantern, consider turning your pumpkin into a unique centerpiece! Just hollow out the pumpkin, place a little soil inside the pumpkin, and add some succulents!
Extra sheets or linen lying around? Get crafty and make some ghosts to hang around your house this Halloween! Simply fold the cloth, draw a face, and hang on a ornament hook (easily bought at your local craft store). Not only do these add a playful element to your Halloween decorations, but can even be saved for next year!
Happy Halloween!

Nothing screams summer more than sun-worn nautical décor. Take the beachside grafitti home with you through rustic metal items, worn driftwood furniture, or inspired artwork!
Create an eclectic space with simple furniture, white walls, and various pops of color to reflect a fun crowded day at the beach!
There are two types of beach people. Those that bring their shovels, buckets, coolers, umbrellas and chairs, and then those that bring only the bare minimum. This driftwood-ladder and blanket duo perflectly captures the latter.
What are your favorite things about the beach? Next time you're in the mood to redecorate, consider taking inspiration from outside!
Happy Summer!

]]>In need of a spa vacation but lack the time and money to get there? Escape the hustle of daily life by reconnecting with nature in your very own bathroom! Here are some simple design steps for transforming your bathroom into your personal zen sanctuary.
Keep it Au Naturel
Capture this resort spa vibe by bringing the outdoors inside. The simplest way to achieve this is by introducing plants and other environmental textures to the space. A variety of plants not only make a room feel exotic, but also act as a natural purifier. Clearing the room of toxins, plants are the perfect component to a spa bathroom. Or, take some tips from the photo above, and utilize large amounts of stone, marble, and wood to engulf the room with natural weight and luxury.
Add a Little Fire
No spa is complete without candles. The soft light calms the space, sending you into a meditative state. For immediate relaxation, candles or essential oils are a must. Consider scents that soothe the body and mind such as lavender, eucalyptus, sage, or tea tree oil.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Stow that overflowing hamper in the closet. Take the minimalist approach and strip your bathroom of any unnecessary items that remind you of work. Instead, keep only elements that add to your spa experience such as, plants, towels, bath bombs, and candles. Everything else should be hidden from sight as you soak your worries away.
Indulge Yourself
Nothing is more distracting from your spa experience than a crowded corner of gooey plastic bottles. To raise the luxury bar, consider placing your bath products in glass pump bottles. According to the Swedish philosophy, Lagom (Not too little, not too much), the items you touch every day should be of the best quality for optimum happiness. So, splurge on fancy soap bottles and plush towels. You won’t regret it.
Now, take these tips, dim the lights and let your worries drift away in your new spa!
]]>1. Light Walls and Dark Floors
Light colors allow for light to flow more freely into the space, allowing you to utilize every inch of the room. Pair this with a slightly darker wooden floor, and it will reflect light and give the room dimension, creating the illusion of a larger space!
2. Just say NO to bottom heavy furniture
Bottom heavy furniture can weigh down a room, making it feel crowded and smaller. Utilize lifted furniture with skinny legs to allow for light and air to circulate the space easier. Let the light through, and your small room will feel ten times larger.
3. Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall…
One of the best ways to make a small space feel larger is hanging a large mirror. Extra points if you hang it on the wall opposite of a window as this triples the light inside the room, making the room feel larger than it is. Want something more interesting? Any art that is reflective can also create this mirror effect.
4. DECLUTTER
It is easier said than done, but clearing surfaces allows for more light to bounce around the room, while also giving the impression that there is more space than meets the eye. Ottomans that double as storage, bookshelves with drawers or cabinets are your best friends. While decluttering, make sure to thoroughly clean any reflective surfaces to optimize light!
Use these tips and turn that small room into a breathtaking space! And be sure to let us at R . Designs know how these tricks worked for you!

The kitchen is one of the most important areas of the home. If you're cooking at home, you’re making at least three meals in the kitchen each day, as well as a variety of snacks. This is the reason why your kitchen must be regularly inventoried. The typical issue with kitchen organization is the ineffective use of valuable space within the cupboards and any other available storage. Storage helps to forestall clutter. Fortunately, there are several kitchen organizers available today that will maximize the storage and organization within your kitchen.
Begin with inventorying your kitchen. If you have items that you no longer use, dispose of them. Examples of these items may be cooking or baking utensils, as well as dishes or appliances. Items that are not useful only add to the clutter. Consider donating or selling these items.
Cupboard shelves are sometimes placed too far apart, leaving wasted space between what could have been utilized for storage. Cabinet organizers that have drawers and adjustable shelves to store dishes and bowls will add space. Pull-out shelves for your lower kitchen cabinets will provide easy access to your pots. Similar organizers are great for spices.
A knife magnet for your sharp utensils, will keep your knives within reach and open up valuable drawer storage.
The silverware and dining utensils can be kept in drawer organizers or moveable caddies that may be stowed in the cupboard when not in use.
Organizing your cold storage can be a challenge, however there are a few products that will allow you to use the space in your fridge more efficiently. Bottles are difficult items to store, but with the right product, you can expand refrigerator space. The stackable roll down water bottle racks makes it possible for you to lay your bottles on their sides without having them roll away, while providing additional space.
A rack is a simple shelf that allows for additional storage. This is a perfect place to store shorter items that do not seem to fit in other areas.
Pots and pans can take up a large amount of valuable drawer & cupboard space in the kitchen. Stacking cookware is common practice however, it can be difficult to reach the bottom pan and damages their finish.
A pan tree is a great way to meet your pot and pan storage needs. This inexpensive rack holds your pots, pans, and lids so they are easily accessible, and kept away from dust and grime. The pan tree saves space in your cabinets and allows you to prepare meals more quickly and efficiently.
While a little chaos is beneficial, the human brain is wired to respond positively to order. Psychotherapist and professional organizer Cindy Glovinsky says, "that order feels good because it’s easier for our brains to assimilate the information." In a decluttered space your brain doesn’t have to work so hard.
Clean spaces leave you feeling energized. When you enter a pleasing, uncluttered space your mind sharpens to increase your concentration and focus. Decluttering often acts as a gateway to taking better care of other aspects in your life. Experts report that their clients often lose weight, stop bad habits, obtain jobs, and begin new relationships.

]]>The holiday season is upon us, which means it is time for comfy sweaters, holiday shopping and most importantly, getting your home ready for family and friends.
Creating a warm and welcoming environment for houseguests is one of the most important aspects of holiday planning as they are a major part of the seasonal fun. Before you get overwhelmed, take a look at the suggested tasks below to make your guests feel at home.
Create a Checklist
This is the first thing you need to do. Make a list of everything that needs to be done — from closets that need to be cleaned to appliances that need to be repaired or replaced.
Organize your Kitchen
As you are likely to spend countless hours cooking, baking and entertaining over the next couple of months, stock up on food and snacks. You'll also want to make sure your pantry is well stocked with essential items like flour, sugar, spices and nuts.
Get the Guest Room Ready
This is the place where your guests will be spending most of their time, organizing it should be your top priority. Start with the obvious; freshly laundered sheets, blankets and plenty of pillows. Make sure the nightstand next to the bed has essentials like books for light reading, an alarm clock and a bowl with light snacks like fresh fruits, nuts, and cookies. Filling the room with flowers is a nice touch but make sure you replace the faded ones with fresh blooms every day.
Load Up on Bathroom Supplies
Make sure you have multiple sets of bathroom essentials like soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, dental floss, hair dryer, toilet paper and towels.
Apart from the aforementioned things, there are a number of other factors you need to consider while getting your place ready for the holidays.

Give dated cabinets a sunny new look with a fresh coat of paint. Choose a bold color for a kitchen that really cooks! As long as the frames and doors are structurally sound, you can clean them up and brush on a fresh coat of paint-within a weekend you can take that kitchen from dreary to radiant!
Cabinet Doors
Changing the panels in cabinet doors redefines the look and feel of your kitchen. Decorative glass takes stock cabinets and gives them a custom look. There are limitless choices in glass inserts; contemporary, bubbles, raindrops on water, and antique just to name a few. You can also remove the door altogether and display a dish ware collection or maybe baskets for organized storage. Group similar items, colors or shapes together for a purposeful look.
Update Your Lighting
Try adding new industrial style pendants and maybe some can lights to your kitchen. You can also put dimmers on every light switch to enhance your lighting options. Industrial lighting makes a trendy statement especially when contrasted with granite and traditional style cabinetry. Exclusive designer tip, opt for oversized lighting….scale is important.
Handsome Hardware
Knobs and pulls are kitchen jewelry that can dress up cabinets. Note that cabinet hardware can get very expensive, some costing $30 and up for a single ornate knob. However, you’ll get a huge bang for a few bucks by buying 10-packs of simple, contemporary hardware at big box stores for less than $20 (that’s $2/knob).
Perfect Pantry
Make food storage stylish with trendy numbered bins and natural baskets filled with similar items. For example, fill one basket with dry goods for baking so you can round up brownie, cookie or cake ingredients in a snap.
Bring the Outdoors Inside
By replacing a solid exterior door with a single french door, you can make the space feel larger and add natural light. New blinds can really spruce up a space, but think twice about the type of treatment you hang on windows above the sink area. You want to consider the splash zone that your sink could cause on any treatment that you hang. Options that fit inside the window are tweaks to enable you to dress up your window without ruining the material, roman shades are a perfect option.
Bar Service
Bar stools added to a kitchen island can create a casual spot for savoring a quick bite! Make sure to purchase the correct size, they come in either bar or counter height. If you already have stools, recover the seats in a fun fabric to add a little pizazz. Natural hide or embossed leather are unique ways to make a bold statement.
Fresh Flowers
And finally, one of my favorite additions to any space but also one of the easiest, buy yourself a gorgeous bouquet. Fresh flowers or a bowl of fruit go a long way toward brightening up any space, but especially the kitchen. This inexpensive fix only takes a few minutes and can make any day feel like a special occasion! I love gifting my clients with an arrangement when we shoot our professional room photos!
Accessorize
Swapping kitchen accessories in and out, such as dishtowels and counter-worthy accessories, is another simple and effective way to change the color and feel of a kitchen with minimal cost. Place a rug in front of your sink and add new colorful small appliances. Kitchen-Aid has some beautifully bright mixers and toasters, think of them as jewelry!
There are many things you can do to give your space a new feel, of course if you’re feeling stuck, we’d love to help you take your kitchen to the next level.

You heard right! I am all about quick, affordable, and easy when it comes to Christmas decor. I purchased these beautiful poinsettias and compost pails at Lowes. I then ran over to Hobby Lobby to pick up some really cute Christmas Do-dads @ 50% off. Go me!
I attached the red bells and the curly cue bow to the inside girding of the plant so it wouldn’t cover the entire front of the pail. I then inserted the decorative spikes into the pot, attached another curly cue bow to the lid of the compost pail and voila……instant Christmas fabulousness. Like I promised! Quick, easy, and affordable.
Enjoy, Kimberlie
